 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Words cannot adequately express the sorrow felt at
 the loss of U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Chauncy Ryan Mays of Cookville,
 who died in Afghanistan on February 28, 2011, at the age of 25; and
 WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Mays bravely served his country with
 the 705th Explosive Ordnance Disposal Company, and his actions
 earned him the Bronze Star Medal with two oak leaf clusters, the
 Purple Heart, and the National Defense Service Medal; over the
 course of his distinguished service, he was respected and admired
 by his fellow soldiers as a mentor and true friend; and
 WHEREAS, Born on December 7, 1985, Chauncy Mays graduated
 from Chapel Hill High School in 2004; devoted to his family, he
 enjoyed a rewarding marriage with his wife, Kathryn, and he was a
 loving father to his daughters, Chesnee and Kiley; and
 WHEREAS, Americans owe a profound debt to our nation's
 servicemen and servicewomen, whose courageous efforts and enormous
 sacrifices are deserving of their fellow citizens' deepest respect
 and gratitude; through his unwavering dedication to duty and honor,
 Chauncy Mays embodied the highest ideals of the United States Army,
 and memories of his love and friendship will be forever cherished by
 all those who held him dear; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of U.S. Army Staff
 Sergeant Chauncy Ryan Mays and extend deepest sympathy to the
 members of his family: to his wife, Kathryn Mays; to his daughters,
 Chesnee and Kiley Mays; to his mother, Allyson Dawn Rodgers; to his
 father, Tommy Pierce Mays; and to his other relatives and many
 friends; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of U.S. Army
 Staff Sergeant Chauncy Ryan Mays.
