 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Woody and Gayle Hunt of El Paso are making a lasting
 and positive difference in their community through their
 outstanding philanthropic work; and
 WHEREAS, The couple founded the Hunt Family Foundation in
 1987 and have since donated millions of dollars to local causes,
 nonprofits, and organizations, much of it anonymously; Mr. Hunt is
 chair of the board, while Mrs. Hunt serves as vice president, and
 their son Joshua serves as president; and
 WHEREAS, In the past few years, to encourage charitable
 giving among others, the foundation has made several large public
 gifts, including $2 million for an endowed professorship in
 international business at the Institute for Policy and Economic
 Development at The University of Texas at El Paso, $5 million to
 establish the UTEP Hunt Institute for Global Competitiveness, and
 $10 million to establish the Gayle Greve Hunt School of Nursing at
 Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center at El Paso; moreover,
 the foundation donated $1.2 million toward the El Paso YWCA capital
 campaign; and
 WHEREAS, Mr. Hunt has given freely of his time and energy as
 well, especially in the area of education; he served as a member of
 The University of Texas System Board of Regents from 1999 to 2005,
 during which time he helped to oversee the endowment and operating
 funds for the UT and Texas A&M University Systems as chair of The
 University of Texas Investment Management Company; in addition, he
 has served on the UTEP Development Board and is a member of the UTEP
 Trust; and
 WHEREAS, A native of El Paso, Mr. Hunt acquired control in
 1977 of Hunt Building Corporation, the business founded by his
 father 30 years earlier; today, he is chair and CEO of Hunt
 Companies and its affiliated businesses; he and Mrs. Hunt met in an
 English class at Texas Western College, now UTEP, and then
 transferred together to The University of Texas at Austin, where
 they earned degrees in 1966; they were married that June; and
 WHEREAS, Demonstrating an unwavering commitment to their
 fellow citizens, Woody and Gayle Hunt have contributed greatly to
 the quality of life in El Paso and beyond, and they are truly
 deserving of recognition for their generosity and leadership; now,
 therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
 Legislature hereby honor Woody and Gayle Hunt for their exceptional
 philanthropy and extend to them sincere best wishes for continued
 success and happiness; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Hunt as an expression of high regard by
 the Texas House of Representatives.
