 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Deer Park lost an admired civic leader with the
 passing of city council member Charles Garrison on February 9,
 2011, at the age of 83; and
 WHEREAS, A veteran of World War II, Mr. Garrison served his
 country in the United States Navy; he earned his bachelor's degree
 in business administration from North Texas State University and
 his master's degree from Stephen F. Austin State University, and he
 undertook postgraduate studies at the University of Houston as
 well; in 1962, he moved to Deer Park and began his career in
 education as a public school teacher; he eventually retired as the
 Deer Park Independent School District assistant superintendent,
 and among his professional affiliations was his service as
 president of Gulf Coast School Business Officials; and
 WHEREAS, This dynamic Texan dedicated nearly a
 quarter-century to the city council, serving from 1981 to 1993 and
 again from 1999 onward; his financial acumen and calm, deliberate
 approach contributed greatly to the effectiveness of the council;
 and
 WHEREAS, Deeply committed to his community, Mr. Garrison also
 gave generously of his time and talents as a member of the National
 League of Cities and the Texas Municipal League; in addition, he
 served as president of the Harris County Appraisal District Board,
 the Kiwanis Club, and the Deer Park Teenage Baseball League and as
 treasurer of the Lions Club; and
 WHEREAS, A devoted family man, Mr. Garrison shared a
 rewarding marriage with his wife, Sherry; he was the proud father of
 five children, John, Frank, Todd, Jennifer, and Brent, and in later
 years, he took great pleasure in showing his support for his five
 grandchildren's activities in school, sports, and drama programs;
 moreover, he enjoyed traveling, fishing, gardening, watching
 University of Texas football, and playing poker; and
 WHEREAS, Charles Garrison made a positive difference in
 countless lives through his exemplary service as an educator and
 public official, and those who were privileged to share in the
 richness of his life will forever remember him with respect and
 admiration; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Charles Garrison
 and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his
 wife, Sherry Garrison; to his children, John Garrison and his wife,
 Hilda, Frank Garrison and his wife, Diane, Todd Ford and his wife,
 Georgette, Jennifer Railey and her husband, Jack, and Brent Ford
 and his wife, Robbie; to his grandchildren, Gracie and Morgan
 Railey, Hayden and Jenna Ford, and Morgan Lafferty; and to his other
 relatives and friends; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Charles
 Garrison.
