H.R. No. 970
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Admired Waxahachie community leader Charles Demoney
passed away on February 26, 2011, at the age of 72, leaving his
loved ones to reflect on a life that was rich in meaningful service;
and
WHEREAS, Born on January 18, 1939, to Charles and Alice
Demoney in Fairplay, Colorado, Chuck Demoney worked in the airline
industry for 40 years, beginning as a ramp agent and rising to the
position of president and CEO of MGM Grand Air; after retiring, he
came to Waxahachie with his wife in 1993 and became the owner of
Gift Baskets, Etc., and the historic Hancock Building; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Demoney immediately became involved in the
community in a number of ways; he served as chair of the Downtown
Merchants Association and the Waxahachie Chamber of Commerce, as
president of the Waxahachie Foundation and the Waxahachie Rotary
Club, and as a board member of the YMCA and chair of its capital
expansion campaign; he further distinguished himself as a board
member for the Hope Clinic, the United Way, and Partners in
Education, and he cochaired the courthouse centennial celebration;
and
WHEREAS, Among the honors Mr. Demoney received for his
efforts were the YMCA Member of the Year award for the Dallas area
and the Mabel Frame Award from the Waxahachie Chamber of Commerce,
which recognizes individuals who have positively impacted the local
tourism industry; he was also a supporter of Navarro College and
served on the advisory board for its Waxahachie campus; a man of
faith, he was an active member of the First United Methodist Church
of Waxahachie and contributed to its Builders Sunday school class;
and
WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, Mr. Demoney enjoyed the
love and support of his wife of 28 years, Judy, and he also enjoyed
the affection of the couple's four children, Jennifer, Autumn, Jim,
and Chip, as well as six grandchildren and three
great-grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his life, Chuck Demoney dedicated
himself to making a positive difference in the world around him, and
his can-do spirit, caring heart, and gentle ways will continue to
inspire all those who had the good fortune to know him; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Chuck Demoney and
extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his
wife, Judy; to his daughters, Jennifer Demoney and Autumn Garvin
and her husband, Scott; to his sons, Jim Demoney and his wife,
Violetta, and Chip Demoney and his wife, Amber; to his sisters,
Beverly Stewart and Connie Slaven; to his grandchildren, Kara,
Jimmy, Sydney, Brooklyn, Jackie, and Arthur; to his
great-grandchildren, Tatum, Connor, and Braiden; and to his other
relatives and friends; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Chuck
Demoney.
