H.R. No. 985 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and meaningful accomplishments remain to comfort the family and friends of Edward L. Lehman, Jr., of Vernon, who passed away on February 18, 2011, at the age of 84; and WHEREAS, Edward Lehman was born in Vernon on March 24, 1926, to Edward Lehman, Sr., and Anna Lehman; answering his nation's call to duty during World War II, he served as a fighter pilot with the 56th Fighter Group in the U.S. Army Air Forces; and WHEREAS, Mr. Lehman wed the former Janette Pollard on July 1, 1948, and the couple enjoyed a rewarding marriage until her passing in 2005; he was blessed with 4 children, Mark, Kenneth, Larry, and Linda, as well as 10 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; and WHEREAS, A successful farmer and businessman, Mr. Lehman co-owned Lehman Farms and was the owner of Lehman Flying Service-Ag Spraying; moreover, he served as vice president of Frontier Industries Manufacturing in Raymondville, and he retired as owner and manager of a John Deere agricultural equipment dealership; a man of tremendous energy and initiative, he coinvented and held the patent for the Hesston V-22 brush cotton harvester; and WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan was a director and chair of the Wilbarger-Wichita Soil and Water Conservation District and a director and president of the Wilbarger County Farm Bureau; in addition, he served as a trustee for the Vernon Regional Junior College, as a director of the Red River Valley Association, and as a member of the Texas State ASC Committee; he also contributed countless hours to improving his community as a volunteer with the Lions Club; and WHEREAS, Mr. Lehman was a valued parishioner of the Holy Family Catholic Church, and he worked to help the less fortunate through his affiliation with the Knights of Columbus; he received many well-deserved accolades for his service and accomplishments, including being named Outstanding Rural Citizen of Wilbarger County in 1969 and being designated Outstanding Conservation Farmer by the Wilbarger County Soil and Water Conservation District in 1957 and 1976; in 1986 he was inducted into the American Cattle Breeders Hall of Fame; and WHEREAS, While the death of Edward Lehman has brought great sadness to his family and friends, he leaves behind a legacy that will long be treasured by all those who held him dear; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Edward L. Lehman, Jr., and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his sons, Mark L. Lehman, Dr. Kenneth E. Lehman, and Dr. Larry Lee Lehman; to his daughter, Linda Taylor; to his sisters, Marguerite Miller and Agnes Gloyna; to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Edward L.
