H.R. No. 999 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Sixth-grader Alexis Rodriguez of Waco demonstrated considerable bravery when she rescued two young family members from a house fire on January 24, 2011; and WHEREAS, A student at Cesar Chavez Middle School, Ms. Rodriguez was watching television that evening when she smelled smoke and then discovered flames; she initially tried to douse the fire herself with a bucket of water, but it had already grown too large; and WHEREAS, Thinking quickly, Ms. Rodriguez remembered that two of her cousins, a one-year-old and a three-year-old, were in a back bedroom, and she carried each one to safety outside the house; and WHEREAS, The Waco Fire Department presented Ms. Rodriguez with a certificate of commendation in recognition of her heroism; and WHEREAS, Alexis Rodriguez's actions in a frightening and dangerous situation helped to avert an even greater tragedy, and it is a pleasure to honor her for her courage and composure; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature hereby commend Alexis Rodriguez for rescuing her two young cousins from a burning house and extend to her sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Rodriguez as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
