1010 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
1111 AN ACT
1212 relating to the authority of certain political subdivisions to
1313 change the date of their general elections.
1414 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1515 SECTION 1. Subsections (a) and (a-1), Section 41.0052,
1616 Election Code, are amended to read as follows:
1717 (a) [The governing body of a political subdivision other
1818 than a county may, not later than December 31, 2005, change the date
1919 on which it holds its general election for officers to another
2020 authorized uniform election date.
2121 [(a-1)] The governing body of a political subdivision,
2222 other than a county, that holds its general election for officers on
2323 a date other than the November uniform election date may, not later
2424 than December 31, 2012 [2010], change the date on which it holds its
2525 general election for officers to the November uniform election
2626 date.
2727 SECTION 2. Section 41.0053, Election Code, is repealed.
2828 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
2929 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
3030 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
3131 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
3232 Act takes effect September 1, 2011.
