10	10	A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
11	11	AN ACT
12	12	relating to the authority of certain political subdivisions to
13	13	change the date of their general elections.
14	14	BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
15	15	SECTION 1. Subsections (a) and (a-1), Section 41.0052,
16	16	Election Code, are amended to read as follows:
17	17	(a) [The governing body of a political subdivision other
18	18	than a county may, not later than December 31, 2005, change the date
19	19	on which it holds its general election for officers to another
20	20	authorized uniform election date.
21	21	[(a-1)] The governing body of a political subdivision,
22	22	other than a county, that holds its general election for officers on
23	23	a date other than the November uniform election date may, not later
24	24	than December 31, 2012 [2010], change the date on which it holds its
25	25	general election for officers to the November uniform election
26	26	date.
27	27	SECTION 2. Section 41.0053, Election Code, is repealed.
28	28	SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
29	29	a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
30	30	provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
31	31	Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
32	32	Act takes effect September 1, 2011.
