The bill would amend the Agriculture Code to authorize the Department of Agriculture to submit the primary standards of weights and measures to a laboratory approved by the National Institute of Standards and Technology. The Department of Agriculture indicates that any costs associated with the bill could be absorbed within the agency's existing resources. The bill would take effect September 1, 2011.
