| 9 | 9 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 10 | 10 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter F, Chapter 521, Transportation Code, |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | is amended by adding Section 521.1211 to read as follows: |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Sec. 521.1211. DRIVER'S LICENSE FOR PEACE OFFICER. (a) In |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | this section, "peace officer" has the meaning assigned by Article |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | 2.12, Code of Criminal Procedure. |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | (b) Notwithstanding Section 521.121(a), the department by |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | rule shall adopt procedures for the issuance of a driver's license |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | to a peace officer that omits the license holder's actual residence |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | address and includes, as an alternative, an address that is in the |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | municipality or county of the peace officer's residence and is |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | acceptable to the department. |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | (c) To be issued a driver's license under this section, a |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | peace officer must apply to the department and provide sufficient |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | evidence acceptable to the department to establish the applicant's |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | status as a peace officer. On issuance of the license, the license |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | holder shall surrender any other driver's license issued to the |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | holder by the department. |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | (d) If the holder of a driver's license that includes an |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | alternative address moves to a new residence or if the name of the |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | person is changed by marriage or otherwise, the license holder |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | shall, not later than the 30th day after the date of the address or |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | name change, notify the department and provide the department with |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | the number of the person's driver's license and, as applicable, the |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | person's: |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | (1) former and new addresses; or |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | (2) former and new names. |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | (e) If the holder of a driver's license that includes an |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | alternative address ceases to be a peace officer, the license |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | holder shall, not later than the 30th day after the date of the |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | status change, apply to the department for issuance of a duplicate |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | license. The duplicate license must include the person's actual |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | current residence address. |
|---|
| 42 | 42 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2011. |
