99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Subchapter F, Chapter 521, Transportation Code,
1111 is amended by adding Section 521.1211 to read as follows:
1212 Sec. 521.1211. DRIVER'S LICENSE FOR PEACE OFFICER. (a) In
1313 this section, "peace officer" has the meaning assigned by Article
1414 2.12, Code of Criminal Procedure.
1515 (b) Notwithstanding Section 521.121(a), the department by
1616 rule shall adopt procedures for the issuance of a driver's license
1717 to a peace officer that omits the license holder's actual residence
1818 address and includes, as an alternative, an address that is in the
1919 municipality or county of the peace officer's residence and is
2020 acceptable to the department.
2121 (c) To be issued a driver's license under this section, a
2222 peace officer must apply to the department and provide sufficient
2323 evidence acceptable to the department to establish the applicant's
2424 status as a peace officer. On issuance of the license, the license
2525 holder shall surrender any other driver's license issued to the
2626 holder by the department.
2727 (d) If the holder of a driver's license that includes an
2828 alternative address moves to a new residence or if the name of the
2929 person is changed by marriage or otherwise, the license holder
3030 shall, not later than the 30th day after the date of the address or
3131 name change, notify the department and provide the department with
3232 the number of the person's driver's license and, as applicable, the
3333 person's:
3434 (1) former and new addresses; or
3535 (2) former and new names.
3636 (e) If the holder of a driver's license that includes an
3737 alternative address ceases to be a peace officer, the license
3838 holder shall, not later than the 30th day after the date of the
3939 status change, apply to the department for issuance of a duplicate
4040 license. The duplicate license must include the person's actual
4141 current residence address.
4242 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2011.
