A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to the size of paper supplies and filing cabinets that may
be purchased by the legislature and legislative agencies.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Section 2051.021, Government Code, is amended by
amending Subsection (c) and adding Subsection (d) to read as
follows:
(c) In this section, "state agency" means a board,
commission, department, office, institution, including an
institution of higher education as defined by Section 61.003,
Education Code, or other agency of the state government. The term
includes each house of the legislature and an agency in the
legislative branch.
(d) Notwithstanding Subsection (a), a house of the
legislature or agency in the legislative branch may purchase paper
supplies prohibited by that subsection as necessary to provide for
the orderly transition to the exclusive use of approved paper
supplies for printing official legislative documents. This
subsection expires January 1, 2013.
SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act does not
affect:
(1) a contract for the purchase of an item entered into
before the effective date of this Act; or
(2) the use of any item purchased before the effective
date of this Act.
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2011.
