9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Subsection (a), Section 86.014, Election Code, | |
11 | 11 | is amended to read as follows: | |
12 | 12 | (a) A copy of an application for a ballot to be voted by mail | |
13 | 13 | is not available for public inspection, except to the voter seeking | |
14 | 14 | to verify that the information pertaining to the voter is accurate, | |
15 | 15 | until the first business day after [may be obtained from the early | |
16 | 16 | voting clerk: | |
17 | 17 | [(1) 72 hours after the time a ballot is mailed to the | |
18 | 18 | voter; or | |
19 | 19 | [(2) 48 hours after the time a ballot is mailed to the | |
20 | 20 | voter if the mailing occurs on the fourth day before] election day. | |
21 | 21 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | |
22 | 22 | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | |
23 | 23 | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | |
24 | 24 | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | |
25 | 25 | Act takes effect September 1, 2011. |
