 SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
 WHEREAS, Chapter 448, Government Code, provides for the
 establishment of a Juneteenth memorial monument on the grounds of
 the State Capitol, and the State Preservation Board approved the
 location of the monument at its meeting held on February 14, 2003;
 and
 WHEREAS, Rather than limiting the focus of the monument to
 the commemoration of Juneteenth, the legislature supports the
 establishment of a monument to celebrate the contributions of
 African American Texans to the history of this state at the location
 previously approved for a Juneteenth monument; now, therefore, be
 it
 RESOLVED, That the 82nd Legislature of the State of Texas
 hereby express support for the establishment of a monument to
 African American Texans on the grounds of the State Capitol at the
 location approved for a Juneteenth monument by the State
 Preservation Board in 2003; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That the secretary of state forward an official
 copy of this resolution to the executive director and members of the
 State Preservation Board.
