SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 10
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize the Texas Christian University Horned Frogs football
team on the occasion of its victory in the Rose Bowl on January 1,
2011; and
WHEREAS, The Horned Frogs capped their second consecutive
undefeated regular season by defeating the University of
Wisconsin Badgers by a score of 21-19; one of only two undefeated
teams in the nation, they are the first team from a
non-automatic-qualifying conference to play in the Rose Bowl in
the history of the Bowl Championship Series; and
WHEREAS, In their dramatic victory at the 97th Rose Bowl
game, the Horned Frogs were led by quarterback Andy Dalton, who
was named Offensive Player of the Game, and All-American
linebacker Tank Carder, who was named Defensive Player of the
Game; and
WHEREAS, Team members have demonstrated great talent and
perseverance over the course of the year, finishing with a
perfect 13-0 record and winning their second consecutive
outright Mountain West Conference title, their third in the last
six years; the Horned Frogs have won all of their last 17
conference games and 25 of their last 26, and this year's Rose
Bowl victory marks the team's greatest achievement since its
undefeated national championship season in 1938; and
WHEREAS, Under the superior leadership and expertise of
head coach Gary Patterson, the Horned Frogs have developed
exceptional teamwork and discipline and have become one of the
most successful football programs in the nation; Coach Patterson
has amassed a 97-28 record in his 10 years with the team, and the
team has appeared in a bowl game in 12 of the last 13 seasons; and
WHEREAS, Texas Christian University, the people of Fort
Worth, and Texans across the state are proud of the Horned Frogs
for their hard work, their impressive skills, and their fine
sportsmanship; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
Legislature, hereby commend the Texas Christian University
Horned Frogs on their outstanding season and extend
congratulations to them on winning the 2011 Rose Bowl; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the team as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
