                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1000
 In Memory
 of
 Jesus Morales
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
 commemorates the life of Jesus "Jesse" Morales, who died May 14, 2010,
 at the age of 77; and
 WHEREAS, Jesus Morales was born February 5, 1933, in
 Houston, to Isabel and Josefa Morales; he served the nation with
 honor and distinction as a member of the United States Marine
 Corps; and
 WHEREAS, Blessed with a keen entrepreneurial sense, he
 created a number of successful businesses, including a
 convenience store and Mario's Spanish Inn, a Midland restaurant
 that continues to flourish to this day; and
 WHEREAS, Mr. Morales went on to draw on his experience as a
 police officer in Midland to form Southwestern Security
 Services; dedicated to offering protection and peace of mind to
 the community, the company has become a million-dollar
 corporation serving clients throughout Texas, New Mexico, and
 Louisiana; and
 WHEREAS, Mr. Morales was the first Hispanic to serve as an
 officer with the Midland Police Department and later served as a
 certified investigator with the district attorney's office; he
 was also the first Hispanic to run for countywide office in
 Midland County; and
 WHEREAS, He was active in political affairs and served as a
 delegate to state and national Republican Party conventions; he
 was the first Hispanic in Cameron County to run for office on the
 Republican Party ticket and was awarded the Presidential Task
 Force Medal by President George H. W. Bush for his contributions
 to the Republican Party; and
 WHEREAS, He was selected as Entrepreneur of the Year by the
 Small Business Administration and was cofounder of the Mario
 Morales Memorial Scholarship, established to assist Hispanic
 graduates and named in honor of his late son; and
 WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and compassion, he
 gave unselfishly to others, and his great good humor, his
 generous spirit, and his enthusiasm for living each day to the
 fullest will not be forgotten by those who knew him; and
 WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband, father, and
 grandfather, and his family and countless friends will continue
 to live with the cherished memories of his life and his many
 achievements; and
 WHEREAS, Mr. Morales left behind to mourn his loss his
 daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Jane and Adan Salgado, Martha
 Morales-Wahl and her husband, Jeffrey, Geralda
 Morales-Whittemore, and Monica J. Counts; his sons and
 daughters-in-law, John and Donna Morales, Joseph and Christine
 Morales, and Joel and Nydia Morales; his brothers, Manuel and
 Euterio Morales; his sisters, Sally Lopez, Amelia Gonzalez,
 Josie Shaw, and Angelina Saccar; and his thirteen grandchildren,
 eight great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; now,
 therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
 family of Jesus "Jesse" Morales; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate,
 and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
 Jesus Morales.
