                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1002
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
 recognize Harmony Schools on the occasion of their 10th
 anniversary, which is being celebrated by the Houston-area
 Harmony Schools on May 20, 2011, at the George R. Brown
 Convention Center in Houston; and
 WHEREAS, Harmony Schools are high-performing college
 preparatory charter schools for students from kindergarten
 through 12th grade that focus on mathematics, science,
 engineering, and computer technologies; and
 WHEREAS, Harmony Schools have been recognized among the
 best high schools in the nation; students from Harmony Schools
 have achieved a 100 percent college acceptance rate and have won
 more than 2,000 awards in local, state, national, and
 international science fairs and science Olympiads; and
 WHEREAS, Harmony Schools and their students play an
 important role in their communities and in the world at large
 through their involvement in a variety of causes, including
 providing funds for disaster relief after the tsunami in Japan
 and creating gift baskets for members of various branches of the
 military with whom they work to learn about the latest technology
 used by the armed forces; and
 WHEREAS, Harmony Schools are truly deserving of
 recognition for their many successes and the positive influence
 they exert on their students in helping them prepare for a
 productive future in a changing world; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
 Legislature, hereby commend Harmony Schools on their record of
 excellence and extend to them best wishes for a memorable 10th
 anniversary celebration in Houston; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 the schools as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
