                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1013
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
 recognize Jose Antonio Chapa of San Antonio, who has an
 outstanding record of achievements as a military and private
 pilot; and
 WHEREAS, Jose Chapa grew up in Brownsville; he joined the
 United States Army as a private and retired as a field-grade
 officer with the rank of major, having served two tours of duty in
 Vietnam as an Army aviator; he was designated a Master Army
 Aviator and was awarded a Legion of Merit upon retirement; and
 WHEREAS, He joined the Army in 1959; he graduated from
 Officer Candidate School in April of 1961 and from the Army
 Paratrooper School in June, and he completed the Officer Fixed
 Wing Aviator Course with an instrument rating in the de Havilland
 Beaver in December of the same year; and
 WHEREAS, Mr. Chapa completed many aviation courses during
 his Army service and served as an instructor, an operations
 officer, and an aviation safety officer; his two tours of duty in
 Vietnam included serving as a standardization instructor pilot
 with the 225th Surveillance Airplane Company from July of 1969 to
 July of 1970; and
 WHEREAS, In addition to his exemplary service in the
 military, Mr. Chapa has flown with Frontier Airlines and for
 Armstrong International; he has been a flight instructor,
 program manager, and director of operations for FlightSafety
 International and has served as a contract pilot for several
 corporations; he continues to fly as a member of the Civil Air
 Patrol in San Antonio; and
 WHEREAS, A career pilot for 50 years, Jose Chapa is truly
 worthy of legislative recognition for his extensive career in
 aviation; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
 Legislature, hereby commend Jose Antonio Chapa for his long and
 productive career in the United States Army and his distinguished
 private career as a pilot and instructor; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
