SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1019 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Texas on the occasion of its 40th anniversary; and WHEREAS, Big Brothers Big Sisters is the oldest and largest youth mentoring organization in the United States and is dedicated to its mission of helping children reach their full potential through professionally supported, one-to-one relationships that result in a measurable impact; and WHEREAS, National research has shown young people who participate in Big Brothers Big Sisters programs are less likely to engage in such behaviors as drug and alcohol use or skipping school, and that they are more confident in their school performance and get along better with their families; and WHEREAS, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Texas has provided thousands of hours of mentoring to many area young people over the years and has donated thousands of dollars in scholarship money to deserving students through its foundation; it is ranked in the top five nationally in such measures as six-month retention and in the duration and support of the matches between young people and their Big Brother or Big Sister; and WHEREAS, This exemplary organization has had a profound effect on the lives of countless young people over the course of its 40-year history, and it is truly deserving of recognition for its dedication and its many achievements; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd Legislature, hereby commend Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Texas on its exceptional legacy of service to those in need and extend to all its participants best wishes for a memorable 40th anniversary; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for this outstanding organization as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
