SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1027 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Father Pasquale Lanese for his 58 years of outstanding service as a minister with the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate; and WHEREAS, Father Lanese was ordained into the priesthood on September 6, 1953, in his hometown of Ripalimosani, Italy, after his mother's request for his early ordination was granted by Pope Pius XII; and WHEREAS, A week after his ordination, he was sent to San Antonio to finish his theological studies, despite knowing neither English nor Spanish; his ability to communicate in Latin allowed him to complete his education, and he began his service as a priest at Sacred Heart Church in McAllen; and WHEREAS, Over the course of his 58 years in the priesthood, he has also served in Harlingen, Rock Springs, Crystal City, Laredo, Eagle Pass, and Rio Grande City; in 1995, he was appointed rector of Immaculate Conception Cathedral in Brownsville, a position he held for 15 years; in recognition of his exemplary service, he received one of the highest awards a pope can grant to an individual, the Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice Cross; and WHEREAS, An accomplished scholar and theologian, Father Lanese has performed countless ceremonies and has counseled his parishioners in times of hardship and rejoiced with them in times of prosperity; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd Legislature, hereby commend Father Pasquale Lanese on his dedicated service as an Oblate minister and extend to him best wishes for continued success in all his future endeavors; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
