SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1028 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Father Michael J. Amesse for his 27 years of exemplary service as a minister with the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate; and WHEREAS, Rector of Immaculate Conception Cathedral in Brownsville, Father Amesse was ordained into the priesthood on May 10, 1984, by Oblate Bishop Phillip Smith in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; and WHEREAS, Father Amesse has served at numerous posts throughout the country, including Harrisburg, Washington, D.C., and New Orleans; inspired by the story of the first Missionary Oblates who chose to serve in Brownsville in 1849, he asked to serve in the Rio Grande Valley after his parish in New Orleans was devastated by the floodwaters of Hurricane Katrina; and WHEREAS, A hardworking and dedicated priest, Father Amesse has devoted his time and energy unselfishly to the people of his parish and his community; and WHEREAS, Father Amesse is a man of great spiritual depth, and he has had a profound influence on the lives of countless Christians; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd Legislature, hereby commend Father Michael J. Amesse on his dedicated service as an Oblate minister and extend to him best wishes for continued success in all his future endeavors; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
