                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1032
 WHEREAS, Mixed Martial Arts star Cain Ramirez Velasquez is
 visiting the Lone Star State, and this occasion presents an ideal
 opportunity to honor the current holder of the Ultimate Fighting
 Championship heavyweight title; and
 WHEREAS, A former high school and college wrestling
 champion, Mr. Velasquez embarked on a career in Mixed Martial
 Arts and immediately established himself as a force to be
 reckoned with; in his Ultimate Fighting Championship debut
 against Brad Morris, he ended the fight in the first round with a
 relentless attack and was declared winner by TKO; and
 WHEREAS, His pace and wrestling skill captivated fans as
 Mr. Velasquez went on to win a series of high-profile victories
 and compile a 9-0 record with eight TKOs; in the championship
 bout in October of 2010, he was unfazed by an early barrage from
 defending champion Brock Lesnar, a former National Junior
 College Athletic Association and World Wrestling Entertainment
 champion; Mr. Velasquez delivered a rapid-fire response that
 brought him a TKO at the 4:12 mark in the first round; and
 WHEREAS, Born in Salinas, California, on July 28, 1982,
 Mr. Velasquez played football as a student at Kofa High School in
 Yuma, Arizona, and he was twice named state high school wrestling
 champion; he attended Iowa Central Community College and won the
 National Junior College Athletic Association Wrestling
 championship before accepting a full scholarship to Arizona State
 University; a two-time National Collegiate Athletic Association
 All-American, he won two Pac-10 heavyweight championships; he
 was named Pac-10 Wrestler of the Year for 2005 and graduated with
 a bachelor's degree in education; and
 WHEREAS, Through his talent, hard work, and dedication,
 Cain Velasquez has risen meteorically to the top of his sport,
 and his fans look forward to more excitement as he continues to
 take on the most formidable opponents in his quest for supreme
 dominance in Mixed Martial Arts; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
 Legislature, hereby congratulate Cain Velasquez on his
 spectacular success in Mixed Marital Arts and extend to him
 sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 him as an expression of regard from the Texas Senate.
