                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1038
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
 recognize the Conner Harrington Republican Women's Club, which
 is entering its 40th year as a federated club; and
 WHEREAS, Since its founding, members of the club have
 served as county campaign chairs for numerous Republicans,
 including such political leaders as John Tower, Bill Clements,
 and George W. Bush; members have traveled out of state at their
 own expense as members of the Mighty Texas Strike Force; and
 WHEREAS, Club members helped to elect the first Republican
 judge to a district court in Collin County and spearheaded a
 write-in campaign to have a member of the club become the first
 woman appointed to a Collin County Court-at-Law bench; and
 WHEREAS, Highly effective leaders in the Plano community,
 club members helped one of their members become mayor of Plano
 and later serve in the Texas Senate; they campaigned strongly for
 the appointment of the first woman to the Collin County
 Commissioner's Court, where she still serves; and
 WHEREAS, The members of the club are upstanding
 individuals who are principled representatives on the local,
 district, county, and state levels; six members have been named
 as the Texas Federation's Top Ten Republican Women in the state
 and six members have won the John McVeigh Award in Collin County;
 now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
 Legislature, hereby commend the members of the Conner Harrington
 Republican Women's Club on their outstanding work on behalf of
 the Republican Party and extend congratulations to them as they
 enter their 40th year as a federated club; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 the club as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
