                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1039
 WHEREAS, One of the world's foremost manufacturers of
 military aircraft, Lockheed Martin Aeronautics in Fort Worth is
 celebrating its 70th anniversary in 2011; and
 WHEREAS, Since 1941, Lockheed Martin Aeronautics has built
 a reputation for excellence through exhaustive research and
 innovative development of high-performance aircraft, and its
 products have long played an important role in the defense of our
 nation; and
 WHEREAS, The newest of the company's fifth-generation
 fighters, the F-35 Lightning II, is a single-engine, supersonic,
 multi-role stealth fighter designed to meet the combat
 requirements of the United States Navy, Air Force, and Marine
 Corps and multiple international partners; replacing a wide
 array of aging fighters, the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter program
 will perform key national security functions; and
 WHEREAS, More than 9,000 Texans are employed by Lockheed
 Martin Aeronautics in its F-35 program; parent company Lockheed
 Martin Corporation, which operates 76 facilities in Texas, has a
 workforce of nearly 20,000 in the state, representing
 approximately $3.8 billion in payroll; in addition, its business
 operations generate over $2 billion of revenue for nearly 1,400
 suppliers in the state, creating more than 55,000 indirect jobs; and
 WHEREAS, Exemplary corporate citizens, Lockheed Martin
 Aeronautics and the Lockheed Martin Corporation make vital
 contributions to the economic well-being of the Lone Star State
 and the prosperity of its citizens, and the F-35 Joint Strike
 Fighter program continues the company's proud history of
 military aviation in Texas; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
 Legislature, hereby congratulate Lockheed Martin Aeronautics on
 its 70th anniversary and on the success of its F-35 Joint Strike
 Fighter program and extend to all those associated with the
 company sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 the company as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
