                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1045
WHEREAS, It is essential for the future prosperity of the
State of Texas that more Texas students seek and are prepared for
higher education in order to develop the knowledge and skills
necessary to compete in today's global economy; and
WHEREAS, Generation TX is an innovative initiative of the
Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board to develop a statewide
commitment to creating a college-going and career-ready culture
 in Texas public schools; and
WHEREAS, Generation TX describes both the current
generation, which represents the future of this state, and the
shared aim of creating a culture where postsecondary education is
both a goal and a possibility for all Texas students; and
WHEREAS, Generation TX seeks to assist students and their
families by providing step-by-step guidance for achieving
college and career education at any point in their lives, by
clarifying the processes of applying for admission and financial
aid, and by increasing awareness of and support for the Texas
College and Career Readiness Standards; and
WHEREAS, GenTX.org, the official website of Generation TX,
connects Texas students through an online support community and
provides a unified resource center for students on the path to
college and career education beyond high school; and
WHEREAS, GenTX Day is a day to celebrate and congratulate
the students of Generation TX--especially the graduating class
of 2011; as students take their next steps towards realizing
their futures, communities across Texas are coming together to
applaud their successes and support them as they prepare to go to
college, begin career training, and personally contribute to a
better future for all Texans; and
WHEREAS, GenTX Day provides an opportunity to unite as a
state and inspire students to pursue higher education by sharing
the joys and benefits of a postsecondary education: pride in
oneself, broader opportunities, a rewarding career path, and the
ability to take care of one's family; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
Legislature, hereby declare May 20, 2011, as GenTX Day and
encourage all Texans to demonstrate the community's united
support for higher education and for Generation TX by wearing
their favorite college t-shirt on this day; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
 honor of Generation TX.
