SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1056
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Jerome Gray, who is the recipient of the Heart of
Houston award from the Fifth Ward Enrichment Program; and
WHEREAS, The Fifth Ward Enrichment Program is a youth
leadership and development program for at-risk males who live in
one of Houston's most economically depressed neighborhoods; it
is designed to empower boys to become responsible men and
productive members of their families and of the community; and
WHEREAS, Jerome Gray is a media professional with more than
20 years of work experience and community involvement in Houston;
he has covered many major news events across the world as a
broadcast journalist, winning numerous prestigious awards for
his work; and
WHEREAS, He is also an artist and has held a number of art
shows to benefit various children's charities; he has served on
many boards of directors for nonprofit community organizations
and particularly enjoys working on projects that provide
positive role models for children; he has helped raise several
million dollars for charity, and he has received more than 200
awards for his community service; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Gray is renowned for his journalistic talent
and his award-winning work; that he takes the time to devote
countless hours to humanitarian endeavors is a tribute to his
fine character and his compassion for others; now, therefore, be
it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
Legislature, hereby commend Jerome Gray for his dedication to
improving his community and extend to him congratulations on
receiving the Heart of Houston award from the Fifth Ward
Enrichment Program; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
