SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 107 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Green Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church on the occasion of its 100th anniversary, which is being celebrated March 13 through 20, 2011; and WHEREAS, Green Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church traces its beginnings to a congregation established in 1911 by the Reverend Richard Green in the City of Independent Heights, an all-African American community with its own municipal government; and WHEREAS, Over the years, the church has ministered faithfully to the spiritual needs of countless people; and WHEREAS, Under the guidance and wise stewardship of its pastors, and with the outstanding leadership of its current pastor, the Reverend Eddie G. Reed, Jr., the church has continued to grow and to play a vital role in the life of the community; and WHEREAS, Green Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church has become an invaluable source of strength for its members during times of hardship and bereavement and a place of fellowship during times of abundance and celebration; and WHEREAS, The commemoration of its 100th anniversary is an expression of the church's enduring commitment to its mission of providing enlightenment and hope to its congregation; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd Legislature, hereby extend best wishes to the clergy and members of Green Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church on the joyous occasion of its 100th anniversary; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the church as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
