                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 109
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
 recognize Harmony Science Academy on the special occasion of its
 10th anniversary; and
 WHEREAS, The first Harmony Science Academy was established
 in Houston in 2000; there are now 33 Harmony public schools in
 cities across the state; and
 WHEREAS, Harmony schools are high-performing K-12 public
 charter schools that focus on mathematics, science, engineering,
 and computer technologies to provide opportunities for
 underserved communities; and
 WHEREAS, Harmony schools have earned an outstanding
 reputation for providing a high-quality education and proudly
 serve more than 16,000 students in their college preparatory
 schools, with a college acceptance rate of 100 percent; and
 WHEREAS, Recognized among the best high schools in the
 nation by United States News and World Report, Harmony public
 schools have won more than 2,000 awards in local, national, and
 international science fairs and competitions; last year the
 schools hosted students from 70 countries and 47 states; and
 WHEREAS, Some 14 Harmony schools have received the
 distinction of being designated Texas Science Technology
 Engineering and Mathematics Academies; the schools have become
 instrumental in improving educational opportunities in their
 communities; and
 WHEREAS, The Harmony Science Academy of San Antonio is
 holding a 10th anniversary celebration on February 7, 2011;
 celebratory events will also be held in Houston, El Paso, Dallas,
 and Austin; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
 Legislature, hereby commend the students, faculty, and
 administrators of the Harmony Science Academy and Harmony public
 schools across the state for their exemplary efforts on behalf of
 the young people of this state and extend to them best wishes for
 a wonderful 10th anniversary celebration; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as an
 expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
