SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 11 In Memory of Jillian Smith WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens of Arlington in mourning the loss of Officer Jillian Smith of the Arlington Police Department, who died in the line of duty December 28, 2010, at the age of 24; and WHEREAS, Officer Smith made the ultimate sacrifice while trying to protect the lives of a young woman and her daughter from an armed assailant; and WHEREAS, The citizens of our state receive protection from grievous loss of life and property because of courageous men and women like Jillian Smith, who bravely risk their own lives to ensure the security and well-being of their neighbors; through their skill and sacrifice, they bring safety and peace of mind to people from all walks of life; and WHEREAS, Jillian Smith was a young woman of courage, strength, and compassion who gave unselfishly to others, and her professionalism and dedication to duty will not be forgotten by those who knew her; and WHEREAS, She was a loyal police officer and friend, and she leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by all those who were privileged to share in her life; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved family and friends of Officer Jillian Smith; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Officer Jillian Smith.
