SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 120 In Memory of Dorothy Paula Levy Katz WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and commemorates the life of Dorothy Paula Levy Katz, a longtime community and civic leader, artist, philanthropist, and business owner in San Antonio, who died January 4, 2011, at the age of 88; and WHEREAS, Dorothy was born March 24, 1922, in El Paso; she graduated from El Paso High School and attended The University of Texas at Austin before graduating from the University of California at Los Angeles; she married Charles Julius Katz, Sr., on October 17, 1942, and they enjoyed a loving marriage for more than 59 years until Mr. Katz's death in early 2002; and WHEREAS, She was a longtime member of Temple Beth-El, serving on numerous committees and chairing many events; after years of volunteering for a variety of organizations, she became the owner of Sol del Rio art gallery and The Different Drummer antique shop; and WHEREAS, A warm and optimistic person, she loved people, art, antiques, plants and flowers, dogs, and birds; she actively supported community organizations that enhanced the arts, education, and health and medical research in San Antonio and received numerous awards for her efforts; and WHEREAS, A member of the downtown Rotary Club, she was proud of her perfect attendance at weekly meetings and her status as an honorary member when she could no longer attend; and WHEREAS, A woman of uncommon grace and style, Dorothy Katz had a positive impact on the lives of many people, and she will long be remembered for her civic leadership, her tireless search for beauty in all things, and her many contributions to the San Antonio community; she was a devoted mother and grandmother, and she leaves behind memories that will be long treasured by her family and her many friends; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved family of Dorothy Paula Levy Katz: her daughter and son-in-law, Candy Katz Gardner and Buddy Gardner; her sons and daughters-in-law, Charles J. Katz, Jr., and his wife, Roberta, and Stephen Alan Katz and his wife, Sara; her eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and many other beloved members of her extended family; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Dorothy Paula Levy Katz.
