SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1207
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Yolanda Fernandez for being selected as a statewide
grand prize winner of the H-E-B Excellence in Education Lifetime
Achievement Award for secondary school teachers, and for
demonstrating exceptional commitment to improving student
achievement, increasing parental involvement, and creating
opportunities; and
WHEREAS, The Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes
teachers with 20 or more years in the classroom, and Yolanda
Fernandez competed with four other finalists from around the
state for this honor, which was accompanied by a $25,000 cash
award and a matching $25,000 cash grant for Del Rio High School; and
WHEREAS, Beloved by her colleagues and friends, she has
been described as one of the best teachers in the state of Texas
for her ability to inspire students in the classroom and to leave
a lasting imprint on the hearts and minds of those in her charge; and
WHEREAS, Yolanda Fernandez has a recognized ability to
teach English with passion, bring stories to life, and instill in
her students an appreciation for the language that will benefit
them all of their lives; and
WHEREAS, The H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards program
is the largest monetary recognition awards program for educators
in Texas and one of the largest in the nation; and
WHEREAS, H-E-B began this prestigious awards program in
2002 in cooperation with the Texas Association of School
Administrators to support public education, to spotlight best
practices, and to celebrate the work of Texas educators; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
Legislature, hereby recognize Yolanda Fernandez for winning the
H-E-B Excellence in Education Lifetime Achievement Award for
secondary school teachers and extend to her congratulations on
her outstanding success; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
