SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 316 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to join the participating academies, students, and supporters of the Texas Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Initiative in celebrating T-STEM Awareness Week; and WHEREAS, The Texas Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Initiative seeks to increase the number of students entering postsecondary studies and careers in these subjects and to align economic development with the growth of a workforce skilled in these vital fields; it brings together the public and private sectors to support integration of these subjects into classrooms and to promote teacher recruitment and preparation; and WHEREAS, The Texas Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Initiative is one of the nation's largest, with 51 academies teaching more than 17,000 students, and its seven professional development centers serve more than 2,800 teachers; and WHEREAS, The demands of today's complex and changing world will require an ever-growing number of citizens educated in these critical subjects; it is truly fitting that this exemplary initiative be recognized for its efforts to meet this demand; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd Legislature, hereby commend the academies, students, and supporters of the Texas Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Initiative on their exemplary work in promoting the importance of these vital subjects and extend to them best wishes for a successful T-STEM Awareness Week; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in honor of this special occasion.
