SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 32 In Memory of Maria Teresa Rabago WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens of Austin in mourning the loss of Maria Teresa "Terrie" Rabago, who died December 20, 2010, at the age of 59; and WHEREAS, Terrie Rabago was born and raised in Edinburg; she moved to Austin in 1980, where she devoted herself to community activism, with an emphasis on helping disenfranchised youths, particularly young Latinas; and WHEREAS, She worked with numerous organizations to achieve her goals, including the Hispanic Women's Network of Texas, for whom she served on the board at the local and state levels; she was on the board of Teach Quest and was a community advisor for Kappa Delta Chi at The University of Texas at Austin; and WHEREAS, She was an alumna of Leadership Austin and worked to make the city a better place through her involvement with the Historic Landmark Commission, the Zoning and Platting Commission, and the Bouldin Creek Neighborhood Association; active in the Texas Democratic Party, she played an important role in the election of numerous city, county, and state officials; and WHEREAS, She began her career as a realtor in 1996 and received her broker's license in 2006; she also served as a member of the National Association of Hispanic Real Estate Professionals; and WHEREAS, A woman of spirit and strength, she had a profound impact on the lives of countless young people, and her wisdom, commitment, and generosity will not be forgotten by those who knew her; and WHEREAS, She was devoted to her family, and she leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by all those who were privileged to share in her life; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved family of Maria Teresa Rabago: her daughters, Laura Coulter and Amber Stephens; her parents, Juan Rabago and Maria Elena Hinojosa; her brothers, Robert Homero, Albert, Jose Luis, and Jesse Rabago; her sisters, Sandra Aguiar, Cecilia Mercado, and Eliena Hinojosa; and her five grandchildren; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Maria Teresa Rabago.
