SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 345
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes great pride
in recognizing Lieutenant Governor David H. Dewhurst, who was
recently named the 2011 Border Texan of the Year; and
WHEREAS, Initiated by the Hidalgo Chamber of Commerce in
1989, the Border Texan of the Year award pays tribute to an
individual who has contributed significantly to the betterment
of the Rio Grande Valley and South Texas; and
WHEREAS, One of the most respected political leaders in our
state, David Dewhurst has distinguished himself in his role as
president of the Texas Senate; and
WHEREAS, His tenure as lieutenant governor has been marked
by countless accomplishments, and throughout his career, his
many strengths as a businessman and an innovative community
leader have had a positive and powerful effect on the legislation
he has championed; and
WHEREAS, A statesman and a highly effective public
servant, David Dewhurst helped to balance four state budgets and
to pass the largest tax cut in state history, and he is noted for
his efforts to improve the lives of the people of South Texas and
his endeavors to enhance employment opportunities across the
state; and
WHEREAS, Known for his many talents and his goal-oriented
approach to public service, he has worked diligently to create
new jobs, and as a result of his initiatives, the Texas economy
has fared better than that of most of the nation; and
WHEREAS, Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst is an
exemplary political leader, and due to his vision, hard work, and
high standards, he has earned the admiration and trust of
citizens across the state; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
Legislature, hereby commend Lieutenant Governor David H.
Dewhurst on his outstanding contributions to his state and extend
congratulations to him on earning the title of Border Texan of
the Year; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
him as an expression of highest regard from the Texas Senate.
