SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 346 In Memory of Melissa Susan Mitchell-Manning WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens of Houston in mourning the loss of Melissa Susan Mitchell-Manning, who died on January 29, 2011, at the age of 55; and WHEREAS, Melissa was born September 30, 1955, in Columbus, Ohio, to Vincent and Loretta Hickey; she grew up in Chicago, Illinois, and graduated from Wissahickon Senior High School in Pennsylvania; and WHEREAS, In the early 1980s, she moved to Texas, where she raised her five children and later spent time with her grandchildren; she coached soccer, basketball, and Little League and served as a parent-teacher association president for two terms in Houston; and WHEREAS, Melissa enjoyed traveling with her beloved husband, Robert Manning, and shopping, cooking, and baking; she was dedicated to her work as a homemaker and to her career with First American Title; and WHEREAS, An exemplary lady, Melissa was respected in the community for her many accomplishments, and her courage during the course of her illness was an inspiration to others; and WHEREAS, A woman of integrity, strength, and generosity, she gave unselfishly of her time to others, and her wisdom, warmth, and valued counsel will not be forgotten by those who knew her; and WHEREAS, Melissa was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and she leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by her family and many friends; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved family of Melissa Susan Mitchell-Manning: her husband, Robert Manning; her sister, Anne Grzanka; and her five children and two grandsons; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the members of her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Melissa Mitchell-Manning.
