SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 349
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
pay tribute to The Links, Incorporated, on the occasion of The
Links, Incorporated, Day at the State Capitol on February 28,
2011; and
WHEREAS, Established in 1946, The Links, Incorporated,
is one of the oldest and largest volunteer service
organizations in the country, with a membership of 12,000
professional women of color in 274 chapters in 42 states, the
District of Columbia, and the Commonwealth of the Bahamas; and
WHEREAS, The members of this outstanding organization are
extraordinary women who are committed to enriching and
sustaining the culture of African Americans and other persons of
African ancestry and ensuring their economic survival and
prosperity; and
WHEREAS, Members are individual achievers, business and
civic leaders, mentors, role models, and activists, and they
contribute more than 500,000 hours of volunteer community
service each year; and
WHEREAS, The western area of The Links, Incorporated,
which includes Texas, has some 2,000 members in 55 chapters;
it supports a number of projects that improve the quality of
life of those most in need and enhance the health and
well-being of all members of the community; these dedicated
citizens are indeed worthy of special recognition; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
Legislature, hereby extend a warm welcome to the members of The
Links, Incorporated, who have come to the State Capitol on this
day and extend to all best wishes for a memorable visit; and, be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as an
expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
