SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 41 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes great pride in recognizing the exceptional service that Sergeant James Eddie Wright has rendered to his nation while serving in the United States Marine Corps; and WHEREAS, Now retired from active duty, Mr. Wright served with the 3rd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion as a scout section leader during Operation Iraqi Freedom I; in 2004, he was deployed again to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom II as assistant team leader of Company B, 1st Reconnaissance Battalion, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force; and WHEREAS, On April 7, 2004, Sergeant Wright's team came under heavy enemy fire, including heavy machine guns, small arms, mortars, and rocket-propelled grenades; he was engaged in returning enemy fire with his squad automatic weapon when his vehicle was struck by a rocket-propelled grenade; and WHEREAS, Despite the loss of both hands and severe injuries to his leg, Sergeant Wright was able to maintain his composure and lead his men; he issued instructions on how to remove his radio and call for support and pointed out the location of enemy machine gun emplacements; and WHEREAS, For his exceptional courage under fire and dedication to duty, he was awarded the Bronze Star with Combat Distinguishing Device; over the course of his career, he received numerous other awards and decorations, including the Purple Heart, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Meritorious Mast; and WHEREAS, Today, Mr. Wright serves as a spokesman and advocate for several veterans' organizations, including the Semper Fi Fund and Helping a Hero, and he works for International Preparedness Associates, Incorporated, a recognized leader in providing mission-critical services and products to the special-operations community; it is truly fitting that he be recognized for his bravery, his determination, and his devotion to duty; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd Legislature, hereby commend James Eddie Wright on his extraordinary service to our nation and extend to him best wishes for continued success in all his future endeavors; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of gratitude and esteem from the Texas Senate.
