SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 422 In Memory of Jack Francis Bowen WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the death of Jack Francis Bowen of Victoria on October 18, 2010, at the age of 87; and WHEREAS, Jack Bowen was born in Farmersville, Louisiana, on March 24, 1923, to Delia Lyles Bowen and Clarence Parnell Bowen; after graduating from Alto High School in Texas in 1939, he attended Stephen F. Austin State University; and WHEREAS, Answering his nation's call to duty during World War II, Mr. Bowen left school to work on B-17s at Kelly Air Force Base in San Antonio; he went on to join the United States Navy Air Corps, serving as a navigator on a torpedo bomber in the South Pacific; and WHEREAS, After the war, Mr. Bowen returned to Stephen F. Austin State University, and while studying there he met his wife, the former Peggy Childers; the couple enjoyed 63 years together and were blessed with two sons, Jack and Ted; and WHEREAS, Mr. Bowen spent his professional life in the sand, gravel, and concrete business; after working for 20 years in Houston, he was appointed general manager of the Fordyce Company in Victoria, serving in that position from 1973 until his retirement in 2007; he was active in his profession as a two-term president of the Texas Good Roads and Transportation Association and as a member of Associated General Contractors; and WHEREAS, A devoted family man, Mr. Bowen especially enjoyed hunting and fishing with his sons and his grandchildren; he was also a valued member of First Presbyterian Church; and WHEREAS, Although Jack Bowen is deeply missed, cherished memories of time spent in his company will long endure in the hearts of his family and friends; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of Jack Francis Bowen and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his wife, Peggy Bowen; to his sons, Jack Stephen Bowen and his wife, Kathryn, and Ted Childers Bowen and his wife, Lisa; to his grandchildren, Bradley Childers Bowen, Betsy Jenkins, Neal Meyer, Katie Bowen, and Madeline Bowen; to his great-grandsons, Bowen and Henry Jenkins; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Jack Bowen.
