                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 423
 In Memory
 of
 Tracy Lewis Curtis
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
 citizens of Austin in mourning the loss of Tracy Lewis Curtis,
 who died January 28, 2011, at the age of 67; and
 WHEREAS, Tracy Curtis was born May 11, 1943, on Coronado
 Island, California; she grew up in Amarillo and graduated from
 Amarillo High School before going on to earn a degree in history
 from The University of Texas in 1965; and
 WHEREAS, She returned to Austin in 1974 and became the
 first director of promotions at Texas Monthly, where she met
 Gregory Curtis; the couple married in 1975, and began a life of
 love and mutual respect together; and
 WHEREAS, She was completely devoted to her children,
 willing to leave work at a moment's notice to attend to their
 needs; firm but generous, she served as their best friend and
 confidant throughout her life; and
 WHEREAS, She was a gracious hostess with renowned cooking
 skills and the ability to make each guest feel special; her
 devoted circle of friends included her book club, her Monday
 breakfast group, and the memorable Jelly Girls of Mississippi;
 she was also active in community affairs as a member of the Junior
 League, the altar guild at All Saints' Episcopal Church and the
 board of Saint Andrews School; and
 WHEREAS, Mrs. Curtis had an entrepreneurial spirit and
 created several businesses, including a cooking school for
 children and a service that shepherded authors throughout the
 city on book tours; later in life, she returned to school and
 earned a degree in interior design; she became a member of the
 American Society of Interior Designers and founded 3 Fold Design,
 an award-winning firm; and
 WHEREAS, A woman of courage, strength, and compassion, she
 gave unselfishly to others, and her graciousness, her unerring
 sense of style, and her enthusiasm for living each day to the
 fullest will not be forgotten by those who knew her; and
 WHEREAS, A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, she
 leaves behind countless treasured memories of her life and her
 many achievements; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
 family of Tracy Lewis Curtis: her husband, Gregory Curtis; her
 children, Elizabeth Essary White, Ann Quentin White, Vivian Reed
 Potterf, and Gregory Benson Curtis, Jr.; her mother, Shirley
 Oliver Lewis; her sister, Sally Strickland; and her three
 grandchildren; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
 Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
 memory of Tracy Lewis Curtis.
