                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 435
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
 join the residents of Collin County in proclaiming March 8, 2011,
 as Collin County Day at the Capitol; and
 WHEREAS, Organized in 1846 and carved from Fannin County,
 Collin County was named for the pioneer settler Collin McKinney,
 a signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence; the county is
 located in Northeast Texas and was originally Caddo Indian
 country; the city of McKinney is the county seat; and
 WHEREAS, Known for its rich, black clay soil, Collin County
 has been a source of timber for the state and is a major
 agricultural area that maintains deep ties to its ranching and
 farming heritage; and
 WHEREAS, Over the years, industrial development and
 population growth in the county have been managed with care in
 order to preserve natural habitats and historical sites;
 citizens in the area are in touch with the county's roots through
 the Collin County Historical Commission; and
 WHEREAS, Today, Collin County is the fastest-growing
 county in Texas and the sixth most populous county in Texas;
 since the 2000 census was taken, the county has had a population
 increase of 59 percent, and it now has more than 782,000
 residents; and
 WHEREAS, Collin County maintains an excellent public
 education system, and its employers have a highly educated labor
 pool; the county offers attractive scenery and excellent recreational
 opportunities; Collin County Day is an excellent opportunity for
 the Texas Senate to recognize the important contributions that
 this county and its residents have made to this state and to join
 them in celebrating the county's rich history and its many
 assets; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
 Legislature, hereby commend the people of Collin County for
 preserving their county's many amenities in the face of its rapid
 growth and extend to them best wishes for an enjoyable Collin
 County Day at the Capitol; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
 honor of the residents of Collin County.
