SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 485
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Rai Cole Malone, who is celebrating her 25th year as a
member of Alpha Xi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority,
Incorporated, with a reception on March 12, 2011, in Dallas; and
WHEREAS, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority was begun on the campus
of Howard University by nine college students who envisioned an
organization that would focus on courageous and capable women as
individuals and an organization of strength; the sorority has
grown into a union of thousands of women who are students in 400
institutions of higher education; and
WHEREAS, Alpha Xi Omega Chapter was established in Dallas
on June 6, 1929, by a Howard University graduate who wanted to
start a hometown chapter of the first Greek letter sorority for
African American women; and
WHEREAS, Members of the chapter began working immediately
to fulfill the purpose of the organization through programs of
service; the chapter encourages young women to develop high
standards of character and excellence in educational
achievement, and it provides college scholarships and loans to
Dallas students, social services and support for women and
children, and assistance for developing art, cultural, and
educational institutions and groups; and
WHEREAS, As Rai Cole Malone celebrates her 25th year as a
member of Alpha Xi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority,
she will undoubtedly be joined by many of the chapter's 400
dedicated members who share her commitment to service and to
improving the quality of life for all; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
Legislature, hereby congratulate Rai Cole Malone on her 25 years
of service as a member of Alpha Xi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa
Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, and extend to her best wishes for
an enjoyable celebration; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
her to commemorate this special event.
