SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 49
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in
recognizing Master Sergeant Richard Ruffert on the occasion of
Wounded Warrior Day at the State Capitol; and
WHEREAS, Sergeant Ruffert is a retired disabled combat
veteran who served his country with distinction for over 22 years
in the United States Army; and
WHEREAS, He is now a peer mentor for other veterans, both
statewide and nationwide, and he is working on a master of
divinity degree at Texas Christian University; and
WHEREAS, A native of Indiana, Richard enlisted in the army
in 1982 and went on to serve in leadership positions from squad
leader to first sergeant throughout the United States and
overseas; his service around the world included postings in Saudi
Arabia, Iraq, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Afghanistan; and
WHEREAS, A highly decorated soldier, Sergeant Ruffert
received numerous awards for his outstanding service, including
the Legion of Merit and the Bronze Star, which he was awarded
twice; and
WHEREAS, Wounded Warrior Day at the State Capitol is an
opportunity to pay tribute to Sergeant Ruffert for the valor and
dedication to duty he exhibited while serving his country and to
extend to him deepest gratitude for his steadfast patriotism;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
Legislature, hereby commend Master Sergeant Richard Ruffert on
his outstanding service in the United States Army and on his many
sacrifices on behalf of his nation; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
