SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 512 In Memory of Antonio R. Lopez, Sr. WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and commemorates the life of Antonio R. Lopez, Sr., who died January 29, 2011, at the age of 58; and WHEREAS, Tony Lopez was born in Brownsville on July 5, 1952, one of the 10 children born to Frank and Delia Lopez; he was married to the late Maria Sylvia Lopez; and WHEREAS, Mr. Lopez had a career in law enforcement that spanned 38 years; he served as chief of police for the City of Los Fresnos for 10 years and spent the next 28 years with the Cameron County Sheriff's Department; he was a member of the 911 board of directors for Cameron County and was a founding member of the Boys and Girls Club in Los Fresnos; and WHEREAS, He was a member of the Cameron County Deputy Association; he was presented a plaque of appreciation by the Los Fresnos Chamber of Commerce to honor him for all he had done for the city and citizens of Los Fresnos; and WHEREAS, During his long career in law enforcement, he was admired and respected by his colleagues and by all who knew him; he was renowned for his reliability, his compassion for others, and especially for the courage with which he faced the challenge in his life; and WHEREAS, He was a devout member of the Pentecostal Church and a life member of the New Life Center United Pentecostal Church; he was an avid walker and enjoyed traveling, road trips, fishing, and picnics at the beach with his wife and family; and WHEREAS, Mr. Lopez was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Antonio R.
