                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 582
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
 recognize the Reverend William C. Davis on the grand occasion of
 his 80th birthday and pay tribute to him for his lifetime of
 ministry and dedicated service; and
 WHEREAS, William C. Davis was born in San Antonio on March
 27, 1931, to Judge William C. Davis and Mary Tynan Davis; he was
 ordained a Catholic priest by Bishop Stephen A. Leven on June 1,
 1957, at Saint Mary's Catholic Church in downtown San Antonio; he
 is a member of the religious congregation of the Missionary
 Oblates of Mary Immaculate; and
 WHEREAS, Father Bill, as he is known to his parishioners,
 earned philosophy and theology degrees from De Mazenod
 Scholasticate, now Oblate School of Theology, and a master's
 degree from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles; and
 WHEREAS, During more than 50 years of priestly ministry,
 Father Bill has also served as a high school teacher, football
 coach, missionary, social activist, and college professor and
 chaplain; he served as pastor of Saint Mary's Catholic Church in
 downtown San Antonio and was the founder of the Texas Irish
 Festival; he has ministered to the people of Mexico City and of
 Lusaka, Zambia, as well as those in Omaha, Nebraska, and in San
 Antonio, Houston, and Laredo; and
 WHEREAS, A man of spiritual depth and devotion, Father Bill
 Davis is widely recognized for his commitment to the Hispanic
 ministry and the goal of empowering people personally and
 spiritually; he is a beloved and respected member of his
 community, and his 80th birthday is an excellent occasion to
 celebrate his life and his work; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
 Legislature, hereby recognize the Reverend William C. Davis as a
 treasured citizen of Texas and extend to him best wishes on his
 80th birthday; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 him as a token of esteem from the Texas Senate.
