SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 589 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Anna Maria Chavez, who has been selected for induction into the San Antonio Women's Hall of Fame for her exceptional and innovative work on behalf of the girls of South Texas; and WHEREAS, The San Antonio Women's Hall of Fame honors those women who have contributed significantly to the San Antonio community and the Bexar County region through their accomplishments in their profession or field of service; and WHEREAS, Anna Maria is the chief executive officer of Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas; a strong advocate for girls and their education, she assessed the needs of girls in South Texas and developed a pilot program to help better their lives; and WHEREAS, The program, Gamma Sigma Girls, targets teen girls in high school who could benefit from bonding in a sisterhood type of environment where common interests can be explored and where girls can find support for discovering their life goals; and WHEREAS, Anna Maria Chavez is highly respected for her dedication to her work and for her innovative endeavors to help the young women of Texas, and she is an example to women across our state who wish to explore ways to enrich the lives of others; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd Legislature, hereby commend Anna Maria Chavez for her exceptional achievements and extend congratulations to her on her induction into the San Antonio Women's Hall of Fame; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
