                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 680
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
 join the citizens of Terrell, visiting dignitaries from Great
 Britain and Canada, and Texans across the state in celebrating
 the 70th anniversary of the Lend-Lease Act and the founding of
 the Number One British Flying Training School in Terrell; and
 WHEREAS, The Lend-Lease Act was passed in early 1941 prior
 to the United States' entry into World War II as a means for
 America to aid its allies in the struggle against Nazism; and
 WHEREAS, A section of this landmark legislation allowed
 British Royal Air Force cadets to be trained in the United States
 by civilian instructors; the first and largest of these
 facilities, the Number One British Flying Training School, was
 established in Terrell; and
 WHEREAS, Over the course of the war, more than 2,000 cadets
 were trained in Terrell, where the hospitality of local citizens
 served to create and perpetuate bonds of friendship that continue
 to this day; and
 WHEREAS, To observe this historic anniversary, the Number
 One British Flying Training School Museum in Terrell is hosting a
 celebration of this little-known facet of the history of
 British-American friendship and cooperation on April 7, 2011;
 now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
 Legislature, hereby welcome the British and Canadian Consuls
 General to our state and extend best wishes for a memorable 70th
 anniversary celebration of the Lend-Lease Act and the founding of
 the Number One British Flying Training School in Terrell; and, be
 it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 the participants in this event as an expression of high regard
 from the Texas Senate.
