SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 702 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize the Alice Evening Lions Club's Barbeque Turkey Throwdown Cook-off as a Texas State Barbecue Championship competition; and WHEREAS, Sponsored by the internationally recognized Alice Evening Lions Club and Alice Evening Lions' Charities, the annual Barbeque Turkey Throwdown Cook-off is held in Alice, Texas, on a weekend in August; and WHEREAS, The Alice Evening Lions Club's Barbeque Turkey Throwdown Cook-off began in November of 2008 and includes arts and crafts, a children's cook-off, live entertainment, and a barbecue cook-off sanctioned by the International Barbeque Cookers Association, with more attractions to be added annually; and WHEREAS, The Alice Evening Lions Club was chartered June 25, 1971, and the nonprofit Alice Evening Lions' Charities formed in June of 2007; all the funds raised from the cook-off benefit local community projects; and WHEREAS, The Alice Evening Lions Club's Barbeque Turkey Throwdown Cook-off has attracted approximately 600 visitors to Alice and is expected to attract 300 to 600 visitors annually; cooking teams and visitors come from all areas of the state; and WHEREAS, Texans are noted for their love of barbecue, and this annual cook-off has provided and will continue to provide superior cuisine that satisfies the most discriminating of palates; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the annual Alice Evening Lions Club's Barbeque Turkey Throwdown Cook-off and extend best wishes to all associated with the event; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for this special occasion as an expression of the high regard of the Texas Senate.
