SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 71 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to join Texans across the state in celebrating January 30 through February 5, 2011, as Catholic Schools Week; and WHEREAS, Sponsored by the National Catholic Educational Association and the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, Catholic Schools Week serves to highlight the vital contributions made by the thousands of Catholic schools across the nation; and WHEREAS, Catholic schools in the United States have earned international acclaim for achieving academic excellence while promoting strong values; they offer a rigorous curriculum that emphasizes the lifelong development of moral, intellectual, physical, and social values; and WHEREAS, Catholic schools foster an intellectually stimulating environment in which 95 percent of students graduate, and 83 percent of Catholic high school graduates go on to attend college; and WHEREAS, America's Catholic schools are truly deserving of recognition for the significant role they play in promoting and ensuring a brighter, stronger future for our state and nation; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd Legislature, hereby commend the students, teachers, and administrators of Catholic schools for their many contributions to our nation's educational system and extend to them best wishes for a memorable Catholic Schools Week; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in honor of this special event.
