                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 744
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
 recognize the Texas Woman's University Pioneers basketball team,
 which recently won the 2011 Lone Star Conference women's
 basketball championship title; and
 WHEREAS, The Pioneers defeated the University of Central
 Oklahoma by a score of 74-73 in the conference tournament
 championship game; they achieved their school's first Lone Star
 Conference victory by overcoming opponents that included three
 higher-seeded and regionally ranked teams; and
 WHEREAS, These student-athletes have demonstrated great
 talent and perseverance over the course of the year, ending the
 season with a record of 22-11, setting a school record for
 victories and qualifying for their first berth in the National
 Collegiate Athletic Association tournament; and
 WHEREAS, Team members Kacie Byford, Erin Dickson, Tiandrea
 Dixon, Jasmine Ford, Lara Gilliam, Taja Guerin, Jessica Hanna,
 Diandra Marquez, Brooke Shepherd, Cambria Smith, Taylor Swift,
 Jeanee' Thompson, Tabbatha Thurmond, Ashton Waters, and Kayla
 Weaver can take great pride in their outstanding performance; and
 WHEREAS, Under the superior leadership and expertise of
 head coach Beth Jillson, and with the aid of assistant coach
 Michael Madrid, graduate assistant coach Savannah Thompson,
 student manager Peace Bazuaye, and assistant athletic trainer
 Sheree Colson, the Pioneers have developed outstanding teamwork
 and discipline; and
 WHEREAS, Texas Woman's University and the people of Denton
 are proud of the Pioneers for their hard work, their impressive
 skills, and their fine sportsmanship; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
 Legislature, hereby commend the Texas Woman's University
 Pioneers basketball team on its successful season and extend
 congratulations to team members on winning the 2011 Lone Star
 Conference women's basketball championship title; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 the team as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
