SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 760 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Service Learning Adventures in North Texas; and WHEREAS, Created in partnership with the North Texas Super Bowl XLV Host Committee and the nonprofit organization Big Thought, Service Learning Adventures in North Texas, also known as SLANT 45, was designed to inspire young people to create and implement service projects that improve their communities; and WHEREAS, This worthy program was begun with the goal of involving 20,000 young people in performing 45,000 hours of community service in the year leading up to Super Bowl XLV; it ultimately involved more than 44,000 young people, who completed some 445,000 hours of service throughout the region; and WHEREAS, Representing 33 area school districts and 53 North Texas cities, these dedicated young people created a wide variety of projects that benefited their communities, including teaching computer literacy to senior citizens, establishing an antibullying program, and producing a school health fair; they also created the SLANT 45 Community Heroes Art Exhibition, which reflects their experiences in the program; and WHEREAS, Art from this exhibition is being displayed in the ground floor rotunda of the Texas Capitol April 18 through 22, 2011; it is truly fitting that the efforts of these committed young people be recognized and celebrated; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd Legislature, hereby commend Service Learning Adventures in North Texas on its exemplary work in introducing young people to the inherent worth of community service; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for this exemplary organization as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
