                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 766
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
 congratulate Ronnie D. Shores on receiving the 2011 Student of
 the Year Award from Communities In Schools of Texas; and
 WHEREAS, Communities In Schools is part of a nationwide
 program whose mission is to help young people stay in school,
 learn, and prepare for a successful life by providing
 school-based social services and links to community resources; and
 WHEREAS, Communities In Schools recognizes that effective
 dropout prevention must be a community effort; the Communities In
 Schools state office annually honors outstanding Texans from
 different areas of service for their commitment to students and
 families, the community at large, and the Communities In Schools
 program; and
 WHEREAS, Ronnie Shores is one of the success stories of the
 Communities In Schools program; since becoming involved with the
 program, he has developed his self-confidence and has begun
 taking part in numerous school activities and volunteer work
 outside of school; he completed the XY-Zone leadership
 curriculum, which fostered his leadership and public-speaking
 skills, and he is now an ambassador for Communities In Schools as
 well as a mentor to younger students in the program; he has
 improved his grades noticeably, and he is a key member of his
 school's debate team; and
 WHEREAS, As an award winner, Ronnie is being honored not
 only for his own efforts to succeed in school, but also for his
 contributions to his community and to the Communities In Schools
 program through his spokesmanship, his volunteerism, and his
 efforts to reduce dropout rates and help other students prepare
 for a better future; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
 Legislature, hereby commend Ronnie D. Shores on his commitment to
 becoming a better student and contributing to his school and his
 community and congratulate him on being named Communities In
 Schools 2011 Texas Student of the Year; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 Ronnie Shores as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
