                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 890
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
 recognize Six Flags Over Texas on the occasion of its 50th
 anniversary, which is being celebrated this year; and
 WHEREAS, Six Flags Over Texas opened on August 5, 1961, to
 a crowd that exceeded attendance expectations; it was founded by
 Angus G. Wynne, of the Great Southwest Corporation; and
 WHEREAS, Six Flags Over Texas was named for the six
 governments that have ruled the state: Spain, France, Mexico,
 the Republic of Texas, the Confederate States of America, and the
 United States of America; and
 WHEREAS, Since its opening, the amusement park has been so
 successful that the number of guests has been tallied at 100
 million; the park is a model for the entire park industry and has
 been called the Entertainment Capital of Texas; it has a
 collection of 13 roller coasters, more than any other theme park
 in the South; and
 WHEREAS, Six Flags Over Texas is one of the top five
 employers in Arlington; it annually employs 3,500 part-time and
 seasonal employees, and it contributes significantly to the
 economy of the region; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
 Legislature, hereby extend congratulations and best wishes to
 all who are associated with Six Flags Over Texas on the park's
 50th anniversary; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
 honor of Six Flags Over Texas.
